Book Review: Under Siege by Eric Trump

Eric Trump should be charged with crimes against the truth (and writing).

Packed full of lies, omissions, and white-washing, Under Siege is targeted at uncritical Donald Trump supporters who are triggered by the subtle nuance of Fox News. The kind of people impressed by name brand dropping when bragging about the opulence the author was born into. Ooh, your Swarovski crystal chandeliers have made me realize I've judged the Trumps too harshly!

Apparently DJT's only mistakes are caring too much for his country and being too trusting. The events of January 6 get a single dismissive sentence while unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud get an entire chapter. The name Stormy Daniels never appears along with the repeated claims of a concerted effort to ruin DJT’s marriage. The rare cases of valid points (e.g. media incompetence and bias) are lost in the noise.

Portraying himself as incapable of introspection or empathy, Eric sees the actions of his "enemies” (including most Americans) entirely through the lens of power. Imagine the TV show Succession but with less charismatic characters. He follows in his father's footsteps, further diminishing the office of the President by hurling juvenile insults at both opponents and insufficiently loyal supporters. And nothing says "alpha" like being salty about being attacked by “beta males” who neither fear nor respect you. LOL.

Remarkably this piece of Trump family propaganda managed to have the opposite effect on me than was intended. I was previously unaware that they use a cancer charity as a slush fund, or that they have surveillance cameras in Mar a Lago bedrooms, including those for minor family members (page 5, no joke). DJT's business failures are spoken of in glowing terms, with gloating over the pain of the banks that were reckless enough to loan him money.

Perhaps worst of all, the writing in Under Siege is artless. Bullet point Iists of mostly obscure celebrities that DJT has interacted with. Zero attempt to provide insider insight into DJT's thinking, or justify his extreme and polarizing actions. DJT quotes presented as facts that need no supporting evidence.

I weep for the possibility that this book will one day be considered part of the historical record. Negative ten stars.
