Make team drafting a breeze

Free online tool for running amateur sports league drafts. Intended for minor league associations (hockey, baseball, soccer, etc) with pools of players (probably kids) that need to be divided into teams. Implements a "balancing draft" in which the resulting teams should be reasonably even. If this is not your goal don't use this tool!

Inspired by Cloverdale Minor Baseball's crazy inspired spreadsheet.

Warning: If you have an association full of coaches that undermine balanced teams at every turn no software can save you. Good luck!

Instructions

Setup

1. Enter real team names.
2. Enter players, either manually (re-use demo players or X them away) or via CSV import (which clears demo players).
   • Special positions (like goalies) are tricky. If you really want them in the same draft (e.g. to ensure goalie protections are considered in team averages) normalize their scores to the same scale and socially enforce that no one team drafts too many of that position. But consider simply having a follow up draft for those positions with the lowest average team starting.
   • When importing from CSV the following field names are looked for: name, score, year, position, notes. Only name is mandatory.
3. Put siblings in the same sibling groups.
   • If your association allows friend-requests (you poor bastard) feel free to use sibling groups for that too.
4. Set team protections.
5. Save your work! This app has no backend to save anything on your behalf.

Draft

1. Assemble your team representatives (coaches, etc) in the same room or on a video call.
2. Press the "Start Draft" button.
3. Share this screen.
4. Teams take turn drafting until all players are associated with a team.
